At our Inverkeithing laboratories, we operate the full range of distilling production analytical requirements. These include:

  • Water analyses of private supplies to the current European and Scottish water regulations. Accredited to UKAS and standards including sampling.
  • General distilling microbiology including yeast viability and wash bacteria.
  • Malt Analysis including, moisture, extract, predicted spirit yield (PSY), SO2, Ethyl carbamate (EC), nitrosamines (NDMA) and malt phenols spectrum (peating levels).
  • Distillery wash analysis; determination of OG, FG and alcohol content by customs and excise (C&E) procedures.
  • New make spirit analysis  including phenols, NDMA, EC, esters and higher alcohols.
  • Pot ale and spent lees analyses for trace alcohol, copper, heavy metals BOD and COD.
  • Matured spirit analyses to include maturation congeners, strength, higher alcohols, fixed and volatile acidity, aldehydes and furfural. Also lead and SO2.
  • Certificates of analyses on bulk and bottled products.

In addition to the above laboratory analyses, we also carry out on- site distillery work throughout the Scotch whisky industry in relation to yields or spirit quality.
