Wine Analyses at Tatlock & Thomson

The full range of wine analyses is offered at Tatlock and Thomson's laboratories.
These analyses include pre and post fermentation sugar and wine acid profiling using Dionex ion exchange chromatography, determination of barrel extractives and oak alternative congeners, alcoholic strength, higher alcohols and methanol, volatile and total acidities and full wine microbiology testing.
Additionally for specialised markets, we offer sulphur dioxide, lead, copper, iron and other metals analysis, trace levels of herbicides and pesticides, ethyl carbamate and cork taint aromas e.g. trichloroanisoles.
The chromatogram below shows the spectrum of wine acids in a typical bottled red wine as
determined by ion exchange chromatography using conductivity detection.
This type of analysis can be used to monitor fermentations in red and white wines as well as characterising the finished bottled product
